In this exceeding common size plant there are many small plants that can be planted in egg cup containers which can cover a conservatory.

Hillebrandia is the only family member of Begonia. There is approximately 1500+ species of Begonia.

This plant is consider to be on of the ten largest genera. All Begonia have a few basic feature in common. Begonia produce male and female flowers.

The flowering pot Begonia is use to brighten and add a flora taste to the area. Tuberous Begonia blooms during the summer and autumn. Begonias can raised during the spring if planted in tubers in boxes of moist manure.

Secrets of Success with Begonias:

Begonia Temperature:

Average warmth - minimum 55 degree F in Winter. Be sure to avoid temperatures above 70 degree F.

Begonia Light:

Keep the plant away from direct sunlight. Place the pot in cool and bright areas. Winter sun is beneficial.

Begonia Water:

Ensure that the manure is not soggy, water freely when the plant is in flower.

Begonia Air Humidity:

Surround the pot with damp manure and mist air. Moist air is needed.

Begonia Care After Flowering:

Reduce the water and feed the plant with cool water. New shoots can be use as cutting, increase the water in spring.

Special Problems and Causes:

Brown Blotches, Turning grey and Moldy: Spray the plant with fungicide. Move away the Begonia plant from all other begonias and remove the infected areas on the plant. Avoid low light and improve conditions (over-damp).

Insects: Begonia attracts aphid and red spider mites.

Yellowing leaves: Begonia leaves changes its natural color when the little light, this is also caused by little or too much water.

Loss of Leaves: Begonias starts to lose leaves when there is not sufficient light, this causes the stems to become thin and leggy. Excessive heat causes the leaves to become dry and curled, while too much water causes the leaves to wilt and rotten.

Leaves with brown tips: Begonia leaves becomes brown when the air humidity is too low.

Pale, Rotting Leaves: This is mainly caused when the planted is over water.

White powdery spots: This is also known as powdery mildew. Remove the infected areas on the plant and spray with fungicide. Avoid low temperature and over damp condition.

Flower Buds drop:Dry air and over watering.

Plant Collapse: this is caused by many reasons, rot stem disease and over watering is mainly consider as one dominant reasons.
