Happy Father In Law Day Toronto!

Friday, July 30th, 2010

It’s Father-In-Law day today! Betcha didn’t know that he had a special day all for his own, did ya?

Father-In-Law Day is July 30, all the time (unlike Fathers’ Day, which is always the third Sunday of the month). So this year, it’s today, the last Friday of the month.

Did you already celebrate your Father-In-Law in June? That’s alright – we’re sure that he won’t mind being honoured with your attention today, too!

We’ve got a spectacular range of gifts that will make the special man in your life feel cherished. Here are two great ideas:

ZensationalFlowers? Let’s be honest, flower arrangements aren’t usually the first thing that comes to mind when you’re thinking about choosing a gift for a man. But honestly, men do appreciate flowers from time to time.

The key, though, is to choose the right kind of arrangement. Most men prefer stronger and bolder colours, like dark red, vibrant purple and a dramatic yellow. We find that they also like less traditional arrangements. Instead of a traditional handtied bouquet or your run of the mill flower design, how about Zensational (pictured on the left)? This stunning flower arrangement features orchids and ti leaves in an elegant cylindrical vase. It’s quite different from what you’d usually find.

Zensational is usually $99.99 but it’s on sale this month for $87.99!)

Salmon and More

Still not convinced about flowers? That’s alright, we’ve got plenty of other gifts to choose from!

Salmon and More is a gift basket (or rather box!) jam packed with edible goodies. There’s smoked salmon, nuts, Hazelnut Crunch, biscuits, crackers and plenty of more stuff that’ll keep your Father-In-Law’s belly happy!

What you see in the picture on the right is just $149.99, but if you think it won’t be enough, you can always add more stuff by making it Deluxe for $189.99. Want even more? Bump it up to Premium for $219.99.

Toronto Table Flower Centerpieces

Posh Pinks Simply Roses

For special occasions, a table would not look complete if there were no flower arrangement on it. Placing cut flowers on a table as a centerpiece is a simple way to decorate a venue, completing the look with flair.

Not all flower arrangements are suitable for tabletops, though. Generally, ideal designs for table flower centerpieces require the following features:

1. It must look attractive, no matter from which direction it is viewed. This means that the arrangement has no front or back, and all the flowers and foliage included are flawless. The container, if visible, should also be attractive from all angles.

2. It must be made to scale. The right size is determined by the size of the table, the number of place settings, and what the table holds. It hsould be big enough to serve its aesthetic purpose, but not so big that it overwhelms everything, and everyone at the table. Things on the table should still be accessible, and everyone seated should be able to see and communicate with each other without having to push the centerpiece out of the way. Remember: flower are to be appreciated for their beauty, not shoved aside as if a nuisance!

Festival of LightTell your florist details of the table you wish to decorate, including settings, colours, and size. For example,a  larger and colourful flower arrangement may provide as a striking centrepiece for a buffet table where nobody wil be seated, while a smaller, more subdued arrangement is suitable for an intimate venue for 4.

3. It shouldn’t have an overwhelming scent. We love the smell of flowers, but not when they’re competing with the smell of food. Heavily scented table flower centerpieces should be reserved for tables without food. That way, guests will be able to enjoy their meal more.

Large dinner party, romantic rendezvous for 2, or entrance of a grand wedding, whatever the occasion, choosing the right table flower centrepiece is easier when you follow these 3 tips from your local Toronto florist. For more information, we’d be happy to help. Just call us at 416-356-7478.
