Need we remind you that Mother’s Day is just a few days away? This Sunday is the big day, and it’s not too late to honour the most important woman Hyacinth Planterin your life with a beautiful selection of fresh cut flowers.

Popular Flowers and Colours for Mother’s Day Flowers
With the holiday falling at a time when Spring is in full swing, it comes to no surprise that the most popular flowers and colours are those associated with the season. Think daffodils, lilies, tulips and delicate hydrangeas – or anything else that conjures up images of warmer and sunnier days. Despite not being a “Spring” flower, roses are also quite popular (aren’t they always?)

In general, women prefer pastels. Coupled with the fact that pastels are associated with Spring, you can make a safe bet that arrangements featuring softer shades will impress.

Of course every mother is unique. Your mother may prefer deeper colours or a potted non-flowering plant, so ultimately, the choice is up to you.

Tulips for Mother’s Day in Toronto

tulip

Tulips are hot right now! They are in season and pleasantly dot the landscape of neighbourhood gardens and yards, making them a great gift to give for Mother’s Day?

If you are planning to give tulips for Mother’s Day, remember the following things to ensure that they look their best:

Tulips continue to grow in length even after being cut, which means you might need to choose a taller vase that can accommodate. Of course, if you’re trimming the stems on a daily basis when you clean the vase, you may not notice this!

Although they still may be fresh and far from wilting, tulips can droop since they are affected by gravity (geotropic). Make sure you keep them upright in a container until you’re ready to present them to your mother.

Tulips are attracted to the light. Much like sunflowers, they’ll try their best to position their heads toward the light, which means they may curve at an awkward angle if the light source is positioned off to the side. Place your tulips directly underneath a light source so they’ll stand straight up.

A tulip’s worst enemy may be a narcissus. After being cut, the slime produced by the stems of all species of narcissi is quite harmful to tulips, shortening their lifespan and causing them to prematurely wilt. For that reason, make sure you don’t mix these two types of flowers together unless they’ve been conditioned properly by your florist.
