Hanging Planters Toronto

Petunia Purple

Some plants at your local Toronto florist are destined to live their life confined in a hanging planter – where they belong. These plants actually thrive in such containers, enjoying the ability to grow with wild abandon. Branches extend upward and outward, spreading around freely without becoming damaged when dangling unsupported over the side.

Here are some popular plants you can place in hanging planters:

Showier Flowers
petunia (pictured above)
hanging geranium (Pelargonium)
Christmas Cactus (Schlumbergera)
strawberry begonia (Saxifraga stolonifera)

Mainly Foliage
philodendron (Philodendron scandens)
English ivy (Hedera helix)
Wandering Jew (Zebrina pendula)
creeping fig (Ficus pumila)

If you’d like to decorate the interior and exterior of your home with hanging planters, remember to do the following:

1. Try to use hanging planters with attached drip trays to protect flooring from leaks.

2. Hanging planters can get heavy, especially after watering. Make sure that they are securely fastened to the ceiling or wall with a strong chain or cord, particularly when outside.

3. Transform a regular pot into a “hanging planter” by placing it in a device that mounts to the wall or a banister.

4. Hanging plants generally require more water, since they tend have denser foliage and are placed in areas of less humidity. However, it is important not to over water as well. A layer of clay granular in the bottom of the pot can help prevent the damage caused by over watering.
